I attended a House of Commons debate on Children's Services and took the opportunity to ask the Minister for more funding for Early Years Family Support.
There's no need for lots of fancy new initiatives. I discussed the importance of Government departments working together to support vulnerable families and called for a better resourced, more collaborative and joined up approach both locally and nationally. I asked Government to ensure that children's services are properly funded ahead of the next spending review.
All the evidence shows how important it is to identify those children that need support before the age of two. Early intervention can save lives and is also an efficient use of public funds because if we catch problems early on before they spiral into a crisis, it requires less intensive intervention.
