Investing in better transport infrastructure

Ben visiting business

I've been lobbying Government to invest in road and rail to improve our connections, including the Robin Hood line and the A60, and we're making good progress. Towards the end of 2023, a £30 million scheme of work on the A614 and Ollerton roundabout will begin.

I recognise that roads are one of the biggest priorities for residents across Nottinghamshire, it's also one of my top priorities as the County Council's leader. Once the East Midlands gets its devolution deal we'll have new powers and more control over spending, this means as a region we can have a plan that is tailored directly to our needs, allowing us to better improve our highways.

At County Hall, I put together a new Highways Review which has announced 50 new changes to the way that our roads and pavements are maintained, and over the coming years will ensure that local people see better outcomes for their money on road repairs.

The County Council continues to invest a further £15 million a year into Nottinghamshire's roads on top of the existing £30 million funding from central government and we're rolling out a 'recovery plan' in the summer of 2023 with a further £3 million of funding behind it.

We also continue to develop business cases for Robin Hood and Maid Marian rail lines, to finalise funding secured in November 2021. As part of the government's rail investment plan, Warsop will be connected to the network for the first time in decades, whilst local residents will get improved rail services and access to thousands of new jobs in commutable distance at Toton.
