On Tuesday, I attended Alzheimer's Society's photo exhibition, Dementia Care: The Crisis Behind Closed Doors. The exhibition was attended by over 100 MPs and demonstrated how dementia care is affecting families across the country.
Dementia affects many people across Mansfield and Warsop, and I received a lot of requests to attend the event - it was one of the most rewarding events I've been to. It was really emotional talking to people who are struggling with dementia or caring for relatives, but so important to hear from people with first-hand experience.
It's vital that the next Prime Minister addresses the current state of dementia care through the upcoming Spending Review this Autumn. I signed a letter to the leadership candidates, urging them to provide more support for Dementia Care. The letter proposes using the NHS Long Term Plan funding to support the immediate improvements that are needed, whilst a long-term funding solution is sought.
