I have made up my mind and will support the improved Brexit deal tonight. We have to be pragmatic and realistic. The improvements that have been secured from Brussels reduce the risk of our being tied in permanently, whilst the risk of Brexit being blocked by this remain Parliament increases every day. We need to secure our exit, get out, and then carry on the fight for a positive longer term relationship.
I appreciate some people will agree, others will not. My job here is to weigh up both the legal and practical realities and do what I think is best to deliver on our promises. I have to focus on where things actually are, not where I would like them to be, and if this deal doesn't pass I think the risk of 'no Brexit' is huge. I don't fear 'No Deal' at all but I am absolutely certain that Parliament simply will not let that happen.
I've written a more detailed opinion piece over on The Guardian, which you can read here.
