Last night the Health Secretary, Matt Hancock, announced the extra steps the Government are taking to protect all employees in this sector, including additional support on all important Personal Protective Equipment. We know this is in short supply and it's a huge logistical challenge to get hundreds of millions of pieces of the right kit to the right places. Locally I've been working with the Local Resilience Forum (who are working to get kit to the places most in need) to source local suppliers to complement the work Government is doing.
The core of our plan is to protect the NHS from being overwhelmed so that the ability to care is never stopped as a result of this virus. Expanding the NHS faster than the growth of demand has been a critical objective throughout this crisis, and so far we are achieving it.

✔️ Rules have been strengthened so that all care home residents who are discharged from hospitals will be tested before being admitted into their care home
✔️ All symptomatic care home residents, including all social care colleagues and their households, will be tested.
✔️ Extra priority drops will be made to the Local Resilience Forums who distribute supplies according to need. These steps will build upon the plans already in place. Our new strategy for production and distribution, working with large businesses to help with capacity, is underway.
✔️ A new integrated online delivery system for PPE kit is to be rolled out, with deliveries being made directly to social care providers via the Royal Mail
