Tonight, the Prime Minister has announced a total UK lockdown to tackle coronavirus, as it has become clear that we cannot get the results we need without enforcing social distancing. The Police will have powers to enforce new measures asking you to stay at home.
People can only leave their homes for the following reasons:
Shopping for basic necessities, as infrequently as possible
One form of exercise a day eg a run, walk, or cycle. These must only be done with members of your household or alone
Any medical need, to provide care or to help a vulnerable person
Travelling to and from work, but only where this is absolutely necessary and cannot be done from home
The following measures will also be enforced:
Libraries, outdoor gyms, playgrounds and places of worship will be closed
Gatherings of more than two people in public will be banned, excluding people you live with
All social events, including weddings, baptisms and other ceremonies are banned, but funerals are allowed
This will be in force for three weeks to ensure we do everything in our power to slow down the spread of the virus, so that our NHS can continue to meet demand and keep people alive.
