I'm really happy with the news that government recently announced a £25 funding injection for hospices and palliative care. Hospices are vital in today's society and this extra funding is testament to the amazing work places like John Eastwood Hospice do.
The £25 million funding into the sector will keep many of these facilities - which receives the majority of their funding from the voluntary sector - open and will also improve the quality of end of life care. The money will also support the sector in relieving workforce pressures as well as introducing new services, such as out-of-hours support, respite care and specialist community teams.
The work hospices do in supporting over 200,000 people with terminal or life-limiting conditions as well as the support they give to family is so important and this is a really welcome decision.
