After weeks of voting and a lot of disagreement, one of the toughest competitions that has gripped the public has finally come to an end. I'm pleased to announce that I have chosen the winner of Mansfield's Pawfect Pet!
I launched my 'Pawfect Pets' competition to celebrate the passage of the Animal Welfare (Sentencing) Bill which extends sentences for deliberate cruelty, and of Finn's Law ensuring special protections for service animals. We had animals wearing clothes, driving cars and doing all sorts...
My office have spoken, and our Pawfect Pet is Captain Muffin, the pirate who bravely hops the Seven Seas.
A big thank you to Jack Hessey for telling us about Muffin - prizes are heading your way!
Honourable mentions should go to our second place pets, which were Elizabeth Toule's beautiful retired greyhounds, and third place to Glynis Whitehead's partner Pete, who seems to be very well trained and, frankly, just made us laugh.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to enter and help us celebrate these new extensions of animal rights and protections.
