Mansfield's High Street Funding Success!

July 5, 2019

I am delighted to reveal that Mansfield has secured £150,000 of initial development funding in the first round of bidding for the Future High Streets Fund, after a long campaign in Parliament.

Mansfield made it to the top 50 out of 300 applications and will now be able to use the funding to put together a formal detailed proposal.

The progression to the next phase means that Mansfield will receive £150,000 to allow the Council to properly plan and bid for up to £25 million of funding for major changes to the high street.

Town centre regeneration is one of my local priorities and I regularly pushed Ministers to create a fund to go towards improving our high streets.  I was delighted when this paid off in the November Budget and the Future High Streets Fund was announced!

I've also written and spoken in the Commons in support of the Council's bid to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.

Pleased to say my persistence has not gone unnoticed - during Business Questions in March, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Business, Kelly Tolhurst MP, acknowledged that I'm a passionate campaigner for Mansfield and welcomed the opportunity to hear the Council's proposals.

The £675m of co-funding for the Future High Streets Fund is to support councils to draw up plans for the transformation of their High Streets, allowing councils to invest in the improvements that they need and to facilitate the redevelopment of under-used retail and commercial areas into residential properties. The funding will be available to Councils who have put together a proper plan to address their high street issues and to regenerate the area for the future.

I'm over the moon that Mansfield has made it through the first round of the Future High Streets Fund. I've been campaigning to secure some of the funding for over a year and barely a week has gone by without me reminding Ministers about Mansfield's needs! Safe to say, Mansfield is certainly on the Government's radar.
