Today is the first round of voting to select the new leader of the Conservative Party. Here's a bit of an explanation about how the process will work.
Actually (and perhaps strangely) our political system means that the public has never directly chosen a Prime Minister. In elections people vote for an individual to represent them, who might be a member of a political party, and the parties choose their leaders. That's why this is an internal process.
MPs will whittle it down to two candidates over the course of the next 7 days.
