Yesterday afternoon I spoke with representatives from Abellio UK who are taking over the East Midlands Rail franchise in August. I made it clear that we need to see improved and more frequent services across our area, and they confirmed that there will be both increased evening services and new Sunday services too, which were key priorities that residents have raised with me. Mansfield Station will also be improved and refurbished.
This can also be boosted by the plan they need to bring forward for the Robin Hood Line extension from Shirebrook, through Warsop and out to Ollerton. That project can link those more rural North Notts communities to Mansfield and Nottingham city, connect our whole area to Sherwood Forest more effectively and offer tourism opportunities as well as supporting jobs on the old colliery sites. The extension will mean more commuter trains between Mansfield and Nottingham too.
