Bringing some positive news to you this Sunday - I am pleased to see the latest employment statistics, which show that in the East Midlands there are 2,349,115 people in work – meaning that, under the Conservatives, 249,378 more people now have the security of a job. These figures show our balanced approach to the economy is working.
In Mansfield the number of people who are claiming key out-of-work benefits has fallen by 898 since 2010 – an overall reduction of 33 per cent, meaning fewer people now need this support because they have the security of a job.
Meanwhile, figures show that wages have risen at their fastest pace in over a decade. With employment in the UK at a record high – including a record number of women in work and a record number of full-time jobs –more people than ever before have the economic independence that a job brings and can reach their full potential.
Behind every statistic is a person and a family whose self-esteem, mental wellbeing and life chances are improved by being in the workplace and having a job. I am working to ensure that we deliver more well-paid jobs in Mansfield and Warsop and to support local young people to be able to access the training that they need to secure the jobs of the future
