Over the weekend, the TaxPayers' Alliance (TPA), a national organisation who lobby for low taxes and value for money in local government, focused their campaign on Mansfield District Council.
The TPA came with their roulette table and leaflets, questioning why the Council choose to spend their money outside of Mansfield, instead of here. It's pretty difficult to convince private business to invest here when the Council clearly don't think it's worthwhile.
The Council say it makes a profit to fund services, but the TPA tell me that these investments actually LOST £1m in 2016/17, so that argument just doesn't stand up.
It says a lot when an independent national body is coming up here to highlight this issue. Read more about what the TPA are saying here.
