Today, the Health Secretary is announcing an important shift in our Health Service as he looks to put more money into prevention and keeping people well, rather than focusing solely on acute services when things go wrong.
I welcome this approach and it's something I wrote to him about when he got the job earlier this year. Prevention is better than cure, and part of that also means people taking responsibility for their own health a little more!
In my view, "experts" criticizing the idea that people are responsible for their own lifestyle and their own health need to take a long hard look at themselves. It's not the Government's job to force people to eat healthily and exercise, it's a personal responsibility for you and I to make the right choices for ourselves!
Great news that the new £20bn NHS funding boost will be used for community and primary care... For prevention rather than just crisis management!
