Ben Bradley, MP for Mansfield attended Treasury Questions at the House of Commons.
Ben highlighted the campaign to extend the Robin Hood Line with the Exchequer Secretary Robert Jenrick MP. He urged the Treasury to support the planned extension of the line for passenger service.
If the Robin Hood Line was extended to Ollerton with trains calling at Shirebrook, Warsop and Edwinstowe there would be huge economic benefits locally with improved links to jobs and tourism across North Nottinghamshire, and potentially even further opportunities in the future to connect with the planned HS2 station at Chesterfield.
Commenting, Ben Bradley MP said:
“It was good to raise this issue in Parliament again after Mark Spencer and I have been pushing this for several years. Proposals to extend the line across Warsop have appeared in various Budgets and it is great news that the Transport Secretary has ensured that the new train franchisee will have to consider the business case. That means whoever takes over East Midlands’ train services early next year will have a duty to put the case together for this extension, and I am keen to continue to press the Treasury to support it financially. The cost is minimal for a project like this and the benefits are clear. It would be a huge boost for Warsop, Mansfield and North Notts generally.”
